Hethersett Old Hall School offers an extensive range of subject options in our sixth form. As well as the Year 11 girls who have studied with us, we always welcome new pupils, day and boarding, at sixth form level. All pupils and parents are given the opportunity to meet with teachers to discuss all the options available before deciding which A Level subjects to study. Our ESOL department also offers a full range of qualifications in English for our international students.
From 2017, pupils are following a course consisting of three A Levels (or equivalent) and the EPQ. University offers are mainly based on grades or points gained in the study of three subjects at A Level. We offer a wide range of A Level subjects including: art, biology, business studies, business (applied), chemistry, drama and theatre studies, English literature, French, geography, history, mathematics, music, photography, physical education, physics, religious studies: philosophy and ethics, psychology, Spanish, textiles: design technology and travel and tourism. We also offer a small number of other qualifications at A-level standard; for 2017-18 these are applied business and health and social care, courses which lead to the Cambridge Technical Certificate.
The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) allows pupils to follow their own interests and undertake research and planning to complete a project of their own choosing. The qualification is worth half an A Level in the UCAS tariff and is valued by HE institutions as it promotes independent learning and original thought. We also run ‘The Enrichment Programme’ for all sixth-form pupils which is designed to enhance the sixth form experience. The project promotes study skills alongside the essential life skills needed for independent living.
