We were very lucky to have the fire service come visit our prep department this morning. They delivered a fantastic talk about all the different jobs they do that help keep us safe, and answered all of our questions. We were surprised to discover that not only do firemen put out fires, they also help with floods, crashes, trapped fingers and even cats stuck in trees!

After the talk, we all went into the courtyard to find a real fire engine waiting for us! The firemen showed us all of the equipment stored in the fire engines which they use to help people.

As part of Year 2’s Great Fire of London topic work, we also arranged cardboard houses next to one another, which one of the firemen carefully set alight.

Like the Great Fire of London, the flames spread quickly from house to house and soon died out, leaving only ash left. We were all stood a very safe distance back, though it was very reassuring to have four firemen and a working fire engine nearby!
