Headmaster’s welcome

Welcome to our website and I hope you enjoy this glimpse of our school.

We offer a rich and rewarding education to your children, but also something more – when they join us, they join a community where every boy or girl is valued, nurtured and challenged to do his or her best.

When I look out of my study window and watch our younger pupils playing on the lawns amongst the trees and flowers, I realise that childhood is a precious time and how lucky we are at this school to be able to work, study and play in such beautiful surroundings.

All members of our community are valued as individuals and we celebrate achievement in all its forms, whether it is a string of A* grades at GCSE or A Level or the first swimming certificate awarded to a four year old in Assembly. In this school we share our success.

Our small class sizes allow each pupil to receive the help he or she needs to really grow and develop. At Speech Day, when the Head Girl stands on the podium to deliver her farewell speech, I am aware that her poise and confidence are shared by her fellow pupils, and that when they too enter adult life, they will carry with them, to university and beyond, the confidence and personal qualities gained here which were summed up by the ISI inspectors in one word – ‘outstanding’.

Like most schools, we equip our pupils with the qualifications and technological skills that are vital for modern life and future workplaces as a matter of course – but we also believe that children should leave us as decent young people, willing to contribute to society. We are a forward-looking community but manners matter at Hethersett, as do the traditional values of courtesy, consideration for others, hard work and the pursuit of excellence.

When our pupils go out on visits and excursions, I often receive compliments on their politeness and good behaviour. I think this is in part because, from the youngest day pupils in the Preparatory School to international boarders in the Sixth Form, girls and boys here take pride in their school and wish to represent it in the best possible way – and this makes me proud to be their Headmaster.

All this is a tribute to the friendliness and dynamism of the community in which we live and work. Visit us and you will experience it for yourself.
