Autumn is well and truly apon us with frosty nights and leaves falling. There is still some natural food available for our bees, mainly from ivy, but the days that are suitable for flying and foraging are becoming fewer and shorter. They will continue to leave the hive for water and cleaning even if there is no food available all through the winter. We have just done the last check for the season to ensure there is enough food and to remove the queen excluder so that the queen has access to all parts of the hive. We will periodically peek in to make sure they do not run out of food and are not under attack by mice or woodpeckers – we will keep you all informed!
If you would like to try some of Hethersett honey, there are jars available to buy in reception.
